It seems all of America is built around people having their own car. Granted, some people live in those extremely large cities where public transportation is so common and traffic so bad that many people don’t bother with owning a car. But it seems like most people are used to jumping into their own car, turning the key, and driving away. I lived in a little city in China for a summer, and I didn’t have my own car! I could walk just about anywhere in the city within about 30 minutes or less, and if I didn’t want to take the time for that, I could catch a taxi or rickshaw! There was something very adventurous and self-satisfying about that whole experience!
Why not ditch your car when you come here on vacation!? Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge have a great system of Trolleys that go to all the major attractions in the area. Its only $2 to ride all day, or a fraction of that if you just need one ride. There are also many areas where you can just walk to more than enough destinations to keep you entertained! Let’s take a hypothetical vacation, and see how easy it would be to ditch our cars!
We fly in to the Knoxville Airport from Myrtle Beach, SC on Allegiant Air. Our round-trip tickets are, at most, $140 total with all taxes and fees included. We can take one of the Knoxville taxis listed on the airport’s website to Pigeon Forge for about $65-$75; we can have one of the Sevier County Taxi services come pick us up for $50-$65; or we can even ride in Lincoln Town Car for $110-$120! They will pick us up at the airport and take us straight to the Golf Vista #131 condo in Pigeon Forge, TN.
This luxury 2 bedroom condo features a gas fireplace, indoor whirlpool, great view of golf course and mountains, washer and dryer, and fully equipped kitchen. From March to December, trolleys run right by the condo, and you can get on and go to Dollywood, the downtown Parkway in Pigeon Forge, or Gatlinburg. Even if you come in January and February, it’s still within reasonable walking distance of the downtown Parkway in Pigeon Forge, including the grocery store and tons of attractions. If you can’t walk, just call a taxi!
