Ober Gatlinburg is putting on Oktoberfest, their annual celebration inspired by the festival in Germany. Traditional foods are served up daily, using recipes from other Bavarian festivals. These include schnitzel, turkey legs, pretzels and more. Of course, you can’t experience Oktoberfest without tasting beer! Featuring an Outdoor Bier Garten with several different vendors you’ll be sure to find a favorite among the selection. Games and live music will also be available throughout the celebrations.

Dollywood Harvest Festival is boasting it’s new and exciting theme, Great Pumpkin Luminights. Join them for the best family fun gathering in the Smokies! They have giant pumpkin displays with jack-o-lanterns done by master carvers, along with a Glow Maze sure to impress both children and adults. There’s also tons of new autumn flavored treats such as Pumpkin Funnel Cakes, Candy Corn Cotton Candy and Caramel Apple Sundaes. Kaman artists are also doing glow in the dark art and face painting throughout the park.

What better way to experience the changing of the seasons than a drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Beautiful views offered around every turn, wildlife viewing and hikes for every level of experience are some of our favorite things to do around this time of year.

Cades Cove is an 11-mile loop near Gatlinburg. It offers a leisure drive through the scenery as well as several walking paths. Alum Cave Trail has some of the best fall foliage views in the park, at an elevation of around 5,000 feet. The trail is a 5-mile loop and is for intermediate hikers.

Celebrate Freedom!

Summertime is here in the Great Smoky Mountains! We start off the month with the Nation’s First Independence Day Parade. It has been named by National Geographic Traveler Magazine as a “Top Ten Parade to see in the US”. The Parade begins at midnight on July 4th, 2017. Firefighters, First Responders and Law Enforcement Officers who came to our aid during the Gatlinburg Wildfires of last year will be this years Grand Marshals at the event. Several marching units and bands from across the country will also be featured in the parade. The parade begins at traffic light #1A on East Parkway and turns south onto Parkway at traffic light #3, traveling downtown to traffic light #10 at Ski Mountain Road.

Activities on July 4, 2017 include our River Raft Regatta, held every year on the Little Pigeon River in Downtown Gatlinburg. Registration beings at Noon at the Christ in the Smokies bridge on River Road. Anything float able can be entered into the contest, and is categorized by Trash (not hand-made) or Treasure (hand-made). The event is free to the public and starts at Noon. There will be awards at the end of the event, which ends at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies.

fireworks250x.jpgFireworks begin at 10:00 pm on the fourth and can best be view from Traffic Lights #3 and #5. It was last approximately 20 minutes. Leading up to the event we will have the 129th Army Band putting on a performance at 6:00 pm on Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza.

 

Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge will also join in on the Fourth of July celebrations. thompson-square.jpgThey will be hosting a free festival with food, activities, live music and fireworks. The vendors and Kids’ Carnival will begin at noon. Music begins at 1:30 pm with the final performance, Thompson Square, at 8:30 pm. Following the close of the events from the day will be a Fireworks Showcase starting at 9:45 pm. Free parking is available at the Teaster Lane Municipal Parking Lot with a shuttle service available for the event.

Spring Into The Smokies

The First Day of Spring is here! Springtime is one of the prettiest times to visit the Great Smoky Mountains. The greenery is boasting it’s color and the warmer weather is approaching. Flowers all around are starting to pop up and bloom. Animals are also returning to their active states and can be spotted all throughout the Park.

Our 67th Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage will be held on April 11-15, 2017. This five-day workshop is held annually to help spread knowledge of the regions wildflowers, wildlife, history and much more. With programs held indoor and outdoor, rain or shine, there is more than enough to keep you busy! To register for this event visit the Online Registration.

The Annual Smoky Mountain Trout tournament will be taking place April 1-2 this year. It is open to locals and tourists of all ages and is the largest trout tournament in the Smokies. Fish over 20 miles of stocked streams! There will be over $10,000 in cash and prizes! Festival_of_Nations_2017

Dollywood reopened on March 18, 2017 and is kicking off with the famous Festival Of Nations! This Festival will showcase several different cultures by featuring music, dance, food and art from each one. The Invaders Steel Orchestra is a world renowned band of performers carrying on traditions from over 75 years ago. They are also coming out with two new rides for the 2017 season.
Drop Dropline_DollywoodLine is a 200-foot tall free fall ride, taking guests 20 stories high to enjoy a spectacular view of the park before the free fall. Whistle Punk Chaser is a new junior coaster that will be opening Summer 2017.
